Here's What's Happening In Manitoba Darts

DARTS FOR THE HEART April 24, 2008

At the Manitoba Open the MDAI hosted a bull shoot called "Darts for the Heart". Proceeds from this event went to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation. The bull shoot was held on two days of the tournament with one winner each day. Each player, for a donation of $2.00, threw twelve darts at the bull on a dart board. A record was kept of the total bulls hit. At the end of the day the player with the most bulls scored claimed half of the collected money with the other half going to the charity. A couple of hundred dollars were raised over the weekend. Thanks to everyone who participated and to Alex Austria for overseeing the event.

Day 1 Winner - Bill McDougall
Scored 14 bulls with 12 darts

Day 2 Winner - Aaron Stark
Scored 13 bulls with 12 darts

MDAI INFORMATION BOOTH April 12, 2008

The MDAI set up an informational booth at Garden City Shopping Centre on April 12, 2008. We had dart videos playing all day, information pamphlets, photos, tournament posters, darts and a dartboard. We were even able to get a couple of new members to sign up just from seeing us there and chatting. Lots of people stopped by to see what the darting action was all about and many questions were asked about our sport. There were about ten members who showed up throughout the day to help at the booth and that was great to see. A special thank you goes out to Alex Austria for setting up the whole thing. It was great exposure for the Association and we will be doing it again.

THANK YOU TO ANGIE WARK November 15, 2007

On behalf of the Board of Directors as well as the Membership we would like to take this opportunity to thank Angie Wark for all the work she has done as Publicity Director for the past few years.

We have watched as this quiet woman followed in her mother's footsteps and decided to join our association as a player. She not only obviously enjoyed the sport but she showed a drive and passion for the game to become successful at it as well. After a few years of playing Angie chose to give back as well, and we were lucky enough to add her to our Board of Directors. She was a terrific addition to the Board because she was not afraid to express any concerns or ideas that would benefit the players.

She re-vamped our website as well as our newsletter to make it what it is today but also built and maintained a database where members of our association were kept up to date on relevant news.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for everything you have given but we can say Thank You Angie, for everything you have given. Cheers!!

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE November 6, 2007

Summer is over and we are well under way into what could prove to be one of the greatest years of darts that members of Manitoba have had in quite a while.

The season started at the beginning of September with an All Day Board Meeting, where members of the Board of Directors get together to discuss ideas, review past performances, and make changes for the upcoming year that will help all our members. This day was no exception. There were many ideas brought forward and several changes that will help you as we start this exciting year!! These ideas were presented to the General Membership at the Semi-Annual General Meeting called at the Golden Boy. Manitoba has not held this meeting in quite some time. The ideas were presented, discussed, and received on a positive note by the membership. We think that the results are progressive and probably should have been implemented years ago. To highlight the top three changes:

#1 There is now a Buy-In Opportunity for all members in Manitoba to participate at the Provincials
#2 Provincial Ranking list now has an incentive that will benefit more players within the Province
#3 Membership deadline has now been extended to February 28th for anyone wishing to participate at the Provincials.

Are you aware that it is ONLY NINE MONTHS till Manitoba hosts the top darting event in Canada? This is a chance for Manitoba to show we have the players to compete as well as the committee and volunteers to put on a good show. We have the players and volunteers - all we need is the sponsorship to make these Nationals a memorable one for all. We are looking for assistance in gathering sponsorship by ALL members. If you have access to or know of a company or individual that may be interested in helping to sponsor this event contact any board member and we will more than gladly help you out, with either letters of request, or information.

I would like to wish everyone good luck this season, and look forward to this great year of darts for the members of Manitoba!!!
