2010 Youth Provincials

The youth provincials came and went for another year and we have Team Manitoba. There were 16 youths participating consisting of 10 junior boys, 3 junior girls, 1 senior girl and 2 senior boys. There were quite a few disappointed junior boys who played well, but unfortunately there can only be one winner.

The 2010 Team Manitoba is as follows:
Junior Girls Champion Alicia Looker, runner up Caroline Arnold
Junior Boys Champion Tyler Wolejszo, runner up Coel Lepine
Senior Girls Champion Tandra Lepine, Sydney Kirkpatrick-Wall
Senior Boys Champion Miles Lepine, runner up Donald Little

This will be the first time that I will have 3 siblings on the team. We will be travelling to Gander, NL in May. I am looking forward to this and have high hopes for our team.

I would like to thank Wally, Roy, the youth and parent who helped me set up, tear down, clean up and everything in between. To my husband Peter for his support in most everything I do and who will, once again be the male chaperone. Thanks to Stan for the pictures which will be on the web for all to see.

Remember that there is a bingo that has been allocated to the youth. Those on the team that are 17 years and under must have a representative work this. Please let me know the names of who will be attending.

Date: Wednesday ~ March 24th, 2010
Location: McPhillips St. Station
Time: Late Bingo Session (Arrival Time 9:00pm)

If you have any questions for me, please contact me either by phone: 633-7578 or email: donnacferg@yahoo.ca
For now keep practising team!

2009 Youth National Darts Championship
St. Hyacinthe, Quebec

Day One - We left Winnipeg on time, had a fairly smooth flight but our ride to St. Hyacinthe was not. There were gusting winds in the valley which slowed us down, but we did arrive safely!

Day Two - Donald was our flag carrier and led us in to the opening ceremonies. First day of play was boys doubles and girls doubles. Our senior boys didn't do as well as expected. They did, however, make their opponents earn their sets. The senior girls were in a 3 way tie for 3rd and 4th spot. Unfortunately they had "double trouble" and didn't advance. Junior boys also ended up in a tie-breaker and were successful. They finished joint 3rd. Well done! The junior girls placed third in their division. They ended up on stage and lost to Ontario in the final. Second in Canada! Great job girls!

Day Three - Today was singles events. Caroline and Dylan put in quite the effort, but faced tough competition in their respective sections and did not advance. The majority of Ashley's games went the distance (3 games). She kept wiring her doubles which led her opponents to come out with the win more often than not. Two of our rookies, Alicia and Donald also put forth great efforts, managing to win 3 matches in their sections and going the distance in several others. Alicia was one win away from a tie-breaker. Miles was in a 3 way tie-breaker situation for the last spot. He was unsuccessful, but not for lack of trying. Kristy played well and was 4th in her section. She lost in the first knock-out round to the eventual champion, but not before the fifth and deciding game in which it became a situation of who hit the double first. Well done, Kristy! Finally there is Tyler who continues to impress the country, both youth and adults with his play. He was tied with another player and placed first by count back in his section. He lost due to double trouble in the first knock-out round in the fifth and deciding leg. The buzz in the venue was that the other junior boys were afraid to play him. Look out world! Also Tyler, Miles and Donald all threw 180's, received pin and the NDFC had to pay into the Cancer fund. Good job boys! They all played extremely well if you ask us (Peter & I) and not them.

Day Four - The Nodor Cup was first on the agenda. We had to play in the preliminary round where we lost 4 - 3 to Quebec, but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. Then came the mixed doubles. Unfortunately none of them advanced. Again it wasn't for lack of trying. Team Manitoba - Alicia, Caroline, Kristy, Ashley, Dylan, Tyler, Miles and Donald - all played well. What hurt most of all was the several missed opportunities of finishing games.

The stats for the Canada Cup: ON - 96; AB - 70; QC - 52; NB - 51; BC - 45; NL & SK - 44; MB - 41; NS - 34; NO - 21

They had a good time and would like to make repeat appearance in Gander, NL, 2010

Thank you to my husband Pete who helps me and thanks to the youth who make the nationals eventful for me. Although the kids could make my life a little less stressful by finishing their games faster :)

YOUTH REPORT July 10, 2008

What can I say? The youth nationals, according to all the provinces went very well. They were all pleased with the venue, food, hotel and photography. Some provinces wished that our very own photographer, Stan, would attend all nationals. Well done Stan!

Our youth team of 2008 are:
Ashley Patrick, Caroline Arnold, Dillon Clarke, Tyler Wolejszo,
Katelin Smith, Kristy Kohinsky, Michael Main, Alex Kohinsky

They placed 7th overall, which I was pleased with, considering we had three new team players. These three (Caroline, Tyler and Dillon) all had a "win" in their respective singles divisions. Also, Caroline and Tyler won against N.L. in their first round of Jr. Mixed Doubles and lost to N.O. in the next. Both our senior teams lost in the second rounds.

In the singles events, Ashley Patrick finished joint third. Great job Ashley!
Kristy Kohinsky was joint 5th. Well done Kristy!

Michael Main and Alex Kohinsky placed second in the senior boys doubles. They lost to Saskatchewan in the finals. Great job guys!

Katelin Smith and Kristy Kohinsky place joint third in senior girls doubles. Good job girls!

Way to go Team Manitoba!

Next year the nationals will be held in Quebec.

I'd like to thank each and everyone who helped with set up and tear down and everything in between. I am not naming names as I know that I would forget someone and that would not do. You all know who helped. Again, THANK YOU!

Have a great summer,
Donna Ferguson

MESSAGE FROM THE YOUTH DIRECTOR:

The above are all the participants of the 2008 Youth Provincials. I was quite impressed with them all. There are three that are "first time" team Manitoba, Caroline, Dillon and Tyler. Congratulations to you and the rest of Team Manitoba.

Thanks to Wally for having the keys to let us all in. Thanks to everyone who helped set up and tear down. It sure didn't take long as I believe pretty much everyone there helped one way or another. A special THANKS to Michael who loaned a pair of dress pants to a junior youth so he could participate in the provincials....also thanks to Michael's parents for picking up and delivering the pants to the venue.

2007 YOUTH PROVINCIALS August 29, 2007

Youth Report - Donna Ferguson

Wow, where has the time gone! It's almost the start of the new season and I haven't given the results of the 2007 Youth Nationals....til now. My apologies to the youth for my extreme slowness in reporting.

As you know, Ashley Patrick, Katelin Smith, Courtney Conroy, Krisy Kohinsky, Justin Shannon, Daniel Pawloski, Michael Main and Alex Kohinsky traveled to Quebec for the youth nationals.

In the singles, Ashley, Courtney and Micheal placed joint 5th in their respective categories.
Courtney and Michael (sr. mixed dbles) defeated QC and then lost to AB in the next round, who were the "best of the day". The senior girls and senior boys just missed advancing to the knock-out round.
Our best showing was from Ashley and Katelin in jr. doubles. They were 2nd in their division - the Silver medalists - beating Nova Scotia in the semi-finals and lost to Saskatchewan in the finals.

Overall they did great. Congrats to Team Toba! I'm very proud of you all.

At this time we are looking to host a youth tournament this fall. Stay tuned...more info to follow.

In 2008 we are hosting the nationals in Winnipeg. Much work and fundraising required. Anyone with ideas, please let us know either via email or phone. Volunteers needed too.

It would be wonderful to have our membership grow this year. This would look good on our resume.
